I've been working away from home for much of this year (and 2005 too) and, as a result, have found myself with a huge backlog stack of CDs which have been sent for review to The Irish Music Review website - http://www.irishmusicreview.com.
So I'm on the lookout for some new reviewers for the website.
Sadly, there's no payment involved, but you wouldn't get anything from fRoots or The Living Tradition either (and Songlines only pays £20 per review). I wish I could pay for reviews, but simply don't have the cash to do so - my website is just a labour of love. Still, at least any reviewers will get a free CD.
However, in contrast to the printed press, reviewers are not restricted by word-length, and can express the gamut of their opinions/emotions.
I'm particularly keen to recruit reviewers interested in the following:
1) accordion music;
2) The Dubliners;
3) the Irish song tradition.
But don't let that list deter you (I've only worked my way through a quarter of the CD pile). If you're interested in trying your hand at writing a review, then please contact me privately.
Lastly, I should state that the copyright of all reviews appearing on the site remains with the writer.
I bear all the costs incurred by my website so would prefer that potential reviewers live either within the UK or the EU.
I realize that this might not seem very enticing, but bear in mind that, in terms of future journalistic careers, it's all a matter of small acorns.
I wish I could, but alas I live in New Zealand. As for the small acorns comment, I can attest to that. Thats how I started out writing for magazines. Now I have my own column, no journalism qualifications and and number of people wishng they could.
Happy to oblidge, as I currently do reviews in my local paper in a weekly column I write on Irish Trad music, so this would suit both purposes. I live in Northern Ireland,
Geoff, I'll write a review for you, but if you want I can also edit the ones you receive so that they all have consistent spelling and things like that. I write for a living and worked at the UN for a while so I'm familiar with British standards. Should be fun!
Oh no! Better than most Americans, for sure! I was thinking about *consistency*---any time you have more than one person contributing to something, you're going to have variances, that's all. But I just read through a few of the pieces on Geoff's site and he doesn't need that kind of help anyway; it's all very well done and he obviously knows what he's doing.
I have extensive experience as a music critic and journalist. Please send me hundreds of free CDs and concert tickets immediately, and in return I may or may not send you a review of one of them. Maybe two, if you don't pressure me.
Thanks for all contributions to this thread, but potential reviewers should have noticed that I wrote 'If you're interested in trying your hand at writing a review, then please contact me privately.'
Obviously, anyone offering their services on this thread has completely missed the point!
Thanks to everyone who responded to my request for new reviewers for the Irish Music Review site - http://www.irishmusicreview.com.
I've replied to everybody who seemed to fit the bill and seem to have found some very good writers in the process. So, if you haven't received a reply, then please accept my apologies - perhaps your CV didn't exactly fit my requirements.
Also, sad to say, it's pointless for those rejected to send me insulting messages 'after the fact'. If you'd managed to send me a literate message in the first place, then you wouldn't have been dumped in the rejection bucket.
Geoff - it's very strange, but I did return a couple of emails to you. They must have got lost. I'd still be up for reviewing something. No problem if not.

Are you suggesting that we Scotsmen can't read and write?
