Hello all
I'm strugling with music theory and would like to know if anyone can recomend books or dvd's or just useful ways of getting it to make sense. I am a fiddle player, and i was taught by ear and though i can now slowly read dots , i would love to be able to write down my own tunes. I am dyslexic so i find it hard to get my head round the more abstract stuff or memorise it. I am at present struggling through the ab book of music theory and associated board past papers(soooooooo dull!) I would be very gratefull for any suggestions.
Thanks

Session-member coyotebanjo's book on "Celtic Backup" has some excellent information on rhythm and harmony, specifically oriented toward this type of music. But it sounds more like what you need is a basic primer on reading music and music theory. I would bet your local library has some on the shelf.
I don't have dyslexia but am using a book produced by or connected with Classic FM (would need to check the title at home, intro by Henry Kelly(?)), basic, clear, examples on a CD, questions to test knowledge/learning.
Are there other people you know of with Dyslexia who have learned to read music and could suggest something (would Dyslexic associations, support groups know more?)?
Thakyou so much! really good sugestions especially to find a book concerned with dyslexia and learning music theory, i didn't know that existed. The Session Rules!

Try looking here:
http://www.musictheory.net/
It's very easy to read, has built-in lessons, and even lets you print out staff paper.
