Flutes in Hot Climates

Flutes in Hot Climates

Which is the best type of flute to cope with in hot weather conditions. I live in Spain, want a good flute but fear warping...advice please.

Any polymer is absolutely safe. But I guess you mean wood...

Re: Flutes in Hot Climates

You must keep humidity into the case with the help of a simple humidifier to prevent a too dry environment .

You can try an ARHPA. They live in Spain and you can reach them easily in case you have any problem. Finish is pretty good. They are carefully tuned taking into account that most of the year climate is from mild to hot so as to not to pull the slide out too much (compared to my Murray I don't have to pull it out as much in summer by far). Besides, their flutes are rather thick, there's a lot of wood in them. They might be just a little heavier than others but are harder to crack in my opinion.

You can have a look at their flutes and Uillean Pipes at: www.arhpa.com

Re: Flutes in Hot Climates

I have an australian made wooden flute and it's been through some really hot summers over here. I just make sure I oil it at least once or twice in the summer and fairly regularly throughout the rest of the year. It hasn't cracked yet, touch wood!
