Osteoarthritis is a common problem in older pipers - the base of the thumb being the worst problem . I came across an article by Donald Marshall in Piping Times which is helpful to pipers Volume 58 No 6. This describes a method of increasing the thickness of the chanter behind the c in theGHP or F in uilleann The author has benefitted a lot from this adapter
Scrappy - the "spacer" is a sort of cubeof hardened foam & plastic which isglued to the chanter where rt thumb sits this expands the chanter thickness at this point to 3cms increasing it by 1 cm
