A month ago I had a chance to try a Vincenzo Di Mauro delrin
flute, keyless, in a pub. The sound was great and the flute wasn't heavy BUT It WAS in a noisy pub and I only played it for a few minutes :( I was wondering if anybody owns one of his.
I also had a recommendation for Patrick Olwell's wooden flute but I haven't heard it.
its not that long! not even a year for a keyless, and only 6 for a keyed (which you dont need). i havent placed myself on either list because i thought they were much longer.
i've only played one olwell (pratten), and it felt like magic. i dont really play wooden flutes much, but the second octave played easier than any silver flute i've ever played. personally, i think the price and the wait for a keyless is a steal for the quality you're getting.
it depends what kind of sound you're after. The olwells are very responsive and have a lighter, brighter sound but I find you can't play very loud or heavy on them- not so great if you're in a big session or whatever. I also find the tone just a bit thin but that's probably more what I'm used to playing and my technique etc.
Would anyone of you know the prices for Vincenzo delrin flutes? How much is the new one? Do they come with a case of some sort? It may be offtopic (sorry) but there is very little feedback in the Web about di Mauro flutes and the maker himself is difficult to be contacted with. Thanks.
After exchanging some emails with Vincenzo - The Delrin flute costs 400 euros, each key added is 150euros. The flute doesn't come with a case. And yes, there is no feedback on Di Mauro flutes for some reason.

Re: Vincenzo Di Mauro delrin flutes
If you want an Olwell flute, dig deep into the bank account, and be prepared to wait awhile. But you won't do better.
