On the Chieftains' album "Boil the breakfast early" there's a reel (end of track 5) called Charlie's Buttermilk Mary.
I found some buttermilk here and there (O'Neill) but not the one Charlie was fond of.
Does someone has got the notes?
I know that there is a tune known by both 'butter milk mary' and 'sweenys butter milk' And charlie lennon is supposed to have written it - so maybe 'sweenys buttermilk' is what youre looking for.
Sweeney's Buttermilk was written by Brendan McGlinchey and played a lot by Charlie Lennon. The title often gets confused with a completely different tune called Buttermilk Mary. See comments section on Sweeney's Buttermilk for a detailed discussion.
There's a lovely jig called Buttermilk Mary, played by the band Skylark (Andy McNamara, Gerry O'Connor etc.). Sweeney's Buttermilk, the reel in Bdor or Bm, often gets called "Charlie Lennon's", which is confusing, since most tunes which go by that name are his own compositions.
Why not just credit it to "Lennon & McGlinchey" - after all how much input did Paul McCartney have into Strawberry Fields Forever?
