You won't be laughing if Folkyron comes to Sandy Bells once he finds the guitar chords. ;-)

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

This might get you started :

STAR OF THE COUNTY DOWN

Em/GD Em/D/ Em/GD Em CAm D/
G/D/ Em/D/ Em/GD Em CAm D/

Near Banbridge town in the County Down
One mornin' last July,
Down a boreen green came a sweet colleen
And she smiled as she passed me by.
She looked so sweet from her two bare feet
To the sheen of her nut-brown hair.
Such a coaxin' elf, sure I shook myself
For to see if I was really there.

From the "Mudcat cafe" website. Better to look there for lyrics or chords to songs than here.

If you google Irish Guitar Chords there's a bunch of stuff.

And if that is a little high for the voices involved, play it in Am with a capo on the 3rd fret--that's what my group does.

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

Hi folkyron.....Generally on this site, I've found if you ignore Michael (The Mancunian fella living in Scotland playing Irish music) and heed Kenny you'll be alright.

Although the Manchester fella living in Scotland playing Irish musics threads can be amusing.

Good luck.

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

I am going to have to start a chord page on my own website soon. Problem is with any song that is copyrighted, without permission I am not allowed to reprint the lyrics. So kind of difficult to show where all the chords go when I can't show the words!

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

Jim, You could always try to get permission to public the lyrics, or you might be able to get away with reprinting just the first verse (and chorus, if necessary) with the chords. If not, you can just post the chords and hope that even someone who needs to be told the chords can manage to match them with the lyrics, where ever they find the lyrics (recording, liner notes, other web site, etc.) Alternatively, you could just fake the lyrics with chords above or integrated into the lyrics, as here:

Oh, the[C]sxxxxx[F] txxx is[C] cxxxxx,
And the[F] txxxx are sxxxxxx[C] bxxxxxxx,
etc.

Or you could just stick to traditional material.

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

This song isn't, but a lot of what I sing is!

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

P.S. Tracie, I sing that one in D, not C!

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

Jim, lest you fear you have a higher vocal range than mine ... I don't sing it at all. I just borrowed those chords from someone else. I've accompanied singers who sang it in C, D and G (annoyed the cats, that one).

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

Kenny - I should like to call into question the chords you have written out. Are they to go with a non-standard version of the tune? Did you put in a deliberate mistake?
The version I know finishes on an E minor chord, something like:

Em/GD Em/D/ Em/GD Em CD Em/
G/D/ Em/D/ Em/GD Em CD Em/

Knowing that you are a musician of the highest calibre, I will take it to be, if not one of the above, a mere slip of the finger and not an error of judgement.

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

Actually, throw out that C altogether. My arrangement has nothing more than Em, G and D in varying degrees ( throw in a Dsus4 once in awhile)

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

P.S. I am talking about the song in the subject, not the one Tracie posted :)

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

Hi "spoon" - not my chords. I just cut and pasted them from a discussion at "Mudcat". Sorry if they're not correct - just trying to help, as always. My "error of judgement" is having too much trust in what people post on the Internet !
And anyone should feel free to question anything I - or anyone else - posts here or on any other website. No problem.

Re: Star of the County Down

Great song. I have it on CD from our local library.
John MaCormack singing. Would someone please tell me what does " boreen " mean ?
Thanks. Paul.

Re: Chords for Star of the County Down

boreen = country lane

funnily enough it is not a word I have heard used in Co. Down, but have in Co Galway
