Re: Album Advice

Tommy Peoples and Daithi Sproule on Iron Man as well as
Peoples and Paul Brady on The High Part of the Road. Very powerful playing.

Re: Album Advice

Ditto on The Iron Man--mighty stuff.

Also Overland by Randal Bays and Daithi Sproule.

Re: Album Advice

I think Backer means LIZ and Yvonne Kane- they are great! Also, The Lonesome Touch (Martin Hayes) is just fiddle and guitar and freakin fabulaus!

Re: Album Advice

In Play with Liz Carroll and John Doyle.
Ceol Cill Na Martra by Connie O'Connell is mostly just him and Guitar.

Re: Album Advice

Liz Carroll , Lost in the loop might do the trick...and if you can trade in the guitar for a bouzouki Frankie Gavin & Alec Finn CD from about 1979 is hard to beat!

Desert Island disc:

Still in steady rotation. Not enough superlatives to describe this album.

Re: Album Advice

I was just listening to Alasdair Fraser's "Return to Kintail" this morning---just lovely stuff, not very upbeat, but beautiful playing. I think Tony McManus might be my favorite guitar player for accompaniment.

Promenade is my favourite.
Kevin Burke and Michael O Domhnaill.

Cathal Hayden and Arty McGlynn - Handed Down

Re: Album Advice

Did you know, paul brady recorded that andy mcgann one, the high part of the road with peoples and backed another beaut of an album in one week? isnt he just great?

Ive heard He's interested in getting back into backing trad too....if you like his rock n roll backing then id recommend them. I love those albums, for the time they came out, and the general feel off them......

If you like nice guitar backing for traditional Irish fiddle music (that doesnt contain 50% obscure paddy fahey tunes), then look up Jesse smith and john blake jigs n reels, kevin mooneys album (music of the glen) ,and also brain rooneys stuff. The backing and fiddle playing is sublime...
good luck
