Dave Collins' jig. It's on the database in both keys, also under the alternative title of Bobby Casey's. And this from the FC: "Miles Krassen (1981) remarks that this jig was originally composed by Dave Collins in the key of 'C' but was transposed to 'B Flat' by Bronx fiddler Martin Wynne as a more comfortable fiddle key".
Guesswork, NB, pure guesswork. You supplied the answer while I was hacking about with Mary's transcription trying to make sense of it. If I'd seen your post I wouldn't have said anything. But judging from your version above I wasn't too wide of the mark.
Well, very sensible guesswork, Steve. By the way I learnt this tune off the Brid Harper & Dermot Byrne Live In Concert bootleg. I think they did it in Bbmaj but I play it in C, since I'm not a fiddler. I could play it in Bb if I wanted, though, since I play a type of concertina that is sophisticated enough to play in more than 2 keys, but Jack wouldn't know about that
Actually I'm so busy at the moment, I don't have time to work out how to do the 1st & 2nd time endings properly, the way you do them, PB, so if you want my amazing version of the tune in the comments section then you'll have to make your own corrections and cut & paste it yourself
Know this tune??

Re: Know this tune??
I think you've got your Cs in the wrong octave Mary - Upper-case C = middle C, lower case c in the one on your A string.
It seems to work better like this
X:1
T: Unknown
K:C
M:6/8
C2C EGc | ded dcA | c2 A GEC | EGE DED | CB,C D#CD | CEG AGE | GAc dcA | ced c
but I don't recognize it.

How do you know how the tune goes if you don't recognise it?!
I play it like this:
X: 1
T: Dave Collins'
M: 6/8
L: 1/8
R: jig
C: Dave Collins
K: Cmaj
cCC EGc|ded dcA|GcA GEC|EGE DED|

Re: Know this tune??
You forgot to indicate the 1st ending in your abcs for the A-part, Mark.

Re: Know this tune??
That's all fine and dandy, Mark, just be sure to add the first ending before you submit the tune to the database... ok?
