Re: Uilleann Pipe making books??

John B, a word of caution. I have that book myself but I am not a piper myself, I only inherited the book.

However, apparently, I have it on good authority that 'one' couldn't actually build a set of pipes, from start to finish, by simply following the detail in this book.
I am led to believe it is a very useful book indeed, but more of a guide & help, but not 'all' you need for the job.

Perhaps more knowledgeable folks can substantiate or refute this belief?

The book itself is inded more of a guide but you will also need an apprenticeship with a pipe maker before you get going. It's like anything else in life it just can't be learned from a book.

Re: Uilleann Pipe making books??

I got the book and read it more out of curiosity than anything else. You could with some intelligence build a functioning set of pipes from this book, but it wouldn't be perfect. I would purchase one of the many excellent sets of plans (be careful, not all plans are equal) and work from them for the actual dimensions.

The main expectation of the book though is that you are already a fairly proficient woodworker, turner, and metalsmith already. If you are keen to make pipes, I would begin by thinking about acquiring these skills first.
