Name these tunes!

Name these tunes!

Can anybody identify these three polkas? I can't seem to find them here on TheSession, so if nobody can identify them, I'll add them.

Re: Name these tunes!

I don't know the first two but the last one is "Tripping to the Well".

Re: Name these tunes!

I know the first one as The Dark Girl and I learned it from an old Dennis Murphy recording, played along with the Knocknabower Polka. Not sure about the other ones, sorry.

Re: Name these tunes!

Strange, I know "Dennis Murphy's Slide" as "The Dark Girl in Blue" and I found "The Dark Girl" as a totally different polka by Denis Murphy and Julia Clifford.

But the last one is definitely "Tripping to the Well".

Thanks for the help so far. Any takers for the middle one?

Re: Name these tunes!

The second one is Phil Murphy's played in A instead of G as it is here http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/5121

Re: Name these tunes!

Thanks everybody. So we definitely have Phil Murphy's and Tripping to the Well as the second and third tunes. Can anybody confirm the first one as The Dark Girl?

Here's your first one: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/298

I know a completely different polka that goes by the name, "Dark Girl in the Blue Dress."

First polka - Ballydesmond No.1

That first tune is on the classic Star Above the Garter, Julia Clifford and Denis Murphy. I know it as the first of the 3 Ballydesmond polkas. ie Ballydesmond Polka No.1. There's another tune which goes by the name Dark Girl Dressed in Blue on a Frankie Gavin album.

Thank you everybody, you've been most helpful. I knew I came to the right place. :-)

The Dark Girl and that Blue Dress ~

These were lyrics that got around and several 2/4 and 12/8 melodies can carry them. Though these tunes were few, it can still pose a problem and cause some confusion namewise... The same is true for "Shoe the Donkey" and all its variants and several melodes. "Maggie in the Woods" also works with more than the usual melody and its several variations... Another that went more than one way melodywise is "The Frost is All Over"...
