Celticladda hits the road

Celticladda hits the road

That's my contradance band, excited about doing some traveling and performing this fall. Celticladda is a trio with fiddle, guitar and piano. We play hard-driving dance music, mostly reels with some jigs, marches, & waltzes. Tempos for the reels vary from about 112 to 118.

A typical 3-hour contra dance will have about a dozen dances. We'll play a 3-tune medley for each dance, going through one tune 6 or 7 times before switching. We'll play roughly 36 tunes for the evening.

I've posted some of our medleys with tune titles on Celticladda's website. There are some fantastic tunes which I learned right here at thesession.org as posted by other musicians. This site has been a great resource!

This fall we will be in upstate New York, Illinois/Indiana, then on to North Carolina/Virginia. More travel next spring. For a complete schedule, with photos of the band and the tune list, please visit http://www.randymillerprints.com/celticladda.htm

If you are in the area where we are playing, please stop by and say hi! Oh, and if you care to recommend a good contra dance tune, please post the title.

Re: Celticladda hits the road

Hi "celticladda" - I had a look at your list of tunes. You include "The Repeal Of The Poll Tax". I think it would be nice if you gave credit to the composer, Scottish fiddle-player Sandy Mathers.
Good luck with the tour.

Re: Celticladda hits the road

Where in Bloomington, IL will you be on Nov 1-2? I'm three hours from there and have a daughter who goes to school at ISU in Normal (just north of Bloomington).

Re: Celticladda hits the road

Kenny - thanks for reminding me about the composer. I knew it was Sandy Mathers but forgot to put his name into the list. The web page has been corrected. Do you know Sandy? I tried getting in touch with him a couple of years ago but had no luck finding a phone number or address. Anyway, it's a great tune.

Re: Celticladda hits the road

to pn5jn - we are playing the Wednesday night contra dance at the Harmony School in Bloomington. It's at 909 East 2nd Street. David Ernst is calling.

The dance starts at 8:30. Website:

Nothing definite yet for November 2 but there are rumors of a jam with Sam Bartlett and others somewhere in town.

Re: Celticladda hits the road

It seems there's a little disconnect here...

pn5jn asked about Bloomington and Normal, ILLINOIS

and the reply had to do with Bloomington, INDIANA.

I now live in the Indiana one, but I lived in, and attended college in the Illinois one, so I'm somewhat accustomed to the conflation of the two... <GG>

Best of luck with your tour, and I hope to be able to come and hear you here in Indiana!

Thanks,

stv

Re: Celticladda hits the road

Ooops -- thanks for the clarification! Good thing you didn't say "Springfield." That covers all but about three states in the US.

Nonetheless, enjoy the tour and hope it all goes well!
