For starters. Then go look up Christmas Eve, Christmas in Killarney and Christmas in Kinsale. but don't go playing Christmas Eve on Christmas Eve in Chicago -- they've done that so often now that people apparently throw things at you if you try it. Heh.
We saw the Boys of the Lough last night in downtown Burlington. They played some very old tunes and songs that are traditionally played during xmas and new years. They have a CD out with mostly that winter music. I don't have it so I can't tell you much more.
In my capacity as a "teacher" of the violin, at this time of year I am overhelmed by Xmas tunes. To while away the hours and to maintain some sort of sanity I sometimes mess around with tunes. Silent Night can work very well as a jig given the right sort of ornamentation and "feel", (I suggest a a slow, Clare, "slidy" style of playing), while Little Donkey does offer some possibilities as a reel of sorts. Or then again, I could be getting too long in this line of business...
Christmas Day Ida Mornin is a Shetland tune. Maybe The Boys or the Lough play that one. Also Da Day Dawn is another Shetland tune associated with Christmas.
Any Holiday Tunes to Play on the Fiddle??
Any Holiday Tunes to Play on the Fiddle??

Well, a couple of days ago I tuned into RTE radio at lunchtime just in time to catch Frankie Gavin (no less!) playing Rudolf the Rednosed Reindeer.
