Good play-along CD's

Good play-along CD's

I'm looking to buy a CD which is good to play along with. Something that has a good few musicians and with accompaniment (but not too much so as not to be able try accompany them yourself) preferabley.

Tunes not played lightening speed either. Don't mind fast but slower than Dervish!

Thanks.

Re: Good play-along CD's

Something along the lines of Kevin Griffin "Across the Pond". And it would be great if they were all in the normal key (to avoid capos).

hmmm, slower than Dervish...well, that leaves just about everybody else!

Re: Good play-along CD's

Not sure about the speed issue, but Molly, Brady and Peoples is a great "play-along".

Re: Good play-along CD's

Of course I meant Molloy .... Molly is a completely different thing all together!

Re: Good play-along CD's

Paddy Keenan and Paddy Glackin "Doublin'" is quite good for "play along"

Re: Good play-along CD's

Piano-accordionist Karen Tweed has produced CD's / cassettes which are said to be good for playing along with, details in "Recordings" section of this website.

Re: Good play-along CD's

Pat Mangans' Farewell to Ireland has fab tunes....fairly fast but awesome to play along to. oh, an Live @ Mona's is good too. I think Pat's cd is better though...

Re: Good play-along CD's

I get tired just listening to the Malloy, Brady, Peoples album, they play so fast! So unless a person has some of this slowing down software that folks talk about, I would save that album for more advanced lessons!

Re: Good play-along CD's

My strong recommendation is Brian Conway "First Through the Gate" - perfect! (bought it recently) http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/362

Re: Good play-along CD's

Check out Shannon Heaton's Oil for the Chain CD. It comes with a great tune book too.

Re: Good play-along CD's

How about Colm O'Donnell's "Farewell to Evening Dances."

Re: Good play-along CD's

Just one off the top of my head that I used to play along with all the time (until I basically learned every tune off of it-- still go back to it though):

Jimmy Noonan and company-- "The Maple Leaf" http://www.thesession.org/recordings/display/170

Re: Good play-along CD's

breda keville's new cd of gorgeous east galway music at a very unhurried speed is a great playalong. it is titled "the hop down." mike and mary rafferty's recordings of east galway flute & accordion music are wonderful for playing along. mary macnamara's cds of east clare tunes on concertina are super. and "garden of blutterflies," by one Tipsy House in San Francisco, is also a good playalong.

Which you probably saw Kitty, Peter, Mick Kinsella and Maurice Coyle play in Feakle and later from that on TG4 's Feilte program ;-)

Also: look at the Se mo Laoch special on TG4 on sunday (10PM, with a repeat on tuesday 8 pm) on Kitty's life and music. Peter Laban, Claire keville, Brid O Donohuie, Dympna O Sullivan Tim Dennehy and others taking part and playing.

See it on TG4 webtv.
