Hello banjophils I put up a word or two about my old Kasuga banjo a while back.. It has cleaned up well and now I've tried a Goldtone and liked it but has anyone dealt with Andy banjo? He is making up short scale tenors from parts. He sounds just right an enthusiast and etc. on his site.
I've not bought a banjo from Andy, but I have bought various spare banjo parts from him over the last few years. I have always found him very knowlegable & helpful. I'd have no worries about buying a banjo from him.
I would however recommend trying out any banjo before buying to check it is what you are looking for.
I bought a SS250F (shortscale, easily detachable resonator) from Andy last year. I'm very pleased with it and found him excellent to deal with. It's a pretty loud instrument so I leave off the resonator or use a mute most of the time. It's worth visiting his shop to see the full selection.
Andy knows his stuff and will select the right banjo for you and your budget.
Always best to try first if you can but he offered me a trial period if I wasn't happy - I had no need to take up his offer
Thanks for these replies I've also had an email from a satisfied customer and now a conversation with Andy which I'll continue later this evening - everything backs up Andy as a knowlegeable and enthusiastic banjo dealer. He himself is very keen that I try before I buy and he has a policy on this for mail order. I'll let everyone know how I get on.
Thanks again.
As if you need any more convincing . . . I bought a short scale gold tone from Andy. That was six years ago and im only now starting to look for another one. Not much wrong with mine at all but Im just looking for a "stronger tone". Not only MUST you try before you buy but take it to a sesh and see how it stands up and take your current one too for direct comparison.
Thanks again to all the banjo is ordered after hearing the choice over the phone. I know this will make some of you cringe but the return /trade in policy and what has been said here makes this my best option. I''ll let you all know how I get on.
