That's all in the past.
I played the same box for yrs.
I noticed some unusual harmonics coming from it when I played chords. They seemed to work in a very systematic way too.I can't remember my findings, but they where usually very low notes.
There's a possibility that your valves on the reed may not be closing properly.
It's a simple job to complete.
It may also need a tuning.
Or,a couple of the reeds may actually be loose causing a high pitched rattle which actually sounds like a whistle against the metal.
A wheeeeee kindo thing, and it might mean the reeds are slightly to one side and rubbing against the side a bit.
Hold one up against the light to see if the tongue is to one side, slightly.
It's repairable ,though, you might need some new reeds,if they've gotten loose,or give it to a very good tuner.
Saltarelle reeds aren't the strongest,to my recollection.
I changed mine to Antonelli after a couple of yrs.
Hope this helps
Dead on, thanks for the advice everyone , Do you know where you could get Antonelli or other decent sounding reeds peter?
And are they expencive to buy

Re: Box repair
I suggest you ask your problem on Meldeon.net in the technical forum.
Lots of experienced box players there, surely someone will have had the same problem and can advise you.
