Ryder Cup, Ireland

Ryder Cup, Ireland

Don’t normally care too much what people think of me, and rarely feel a need to explain my obsession with This Music, but every once in while I get questions from well meaning friends, family and co-workers who can’t grasp the fact that I play fiddle, in fact, devote quite a bit of time and effort to it, with no intention of joining a band, gigging out and turning pro. Watching bits of the golf tournament today made me remember a great way to explain it to friends: music is my Golf. I play cause I enjoy it, period. I’m an amateur. I’ll never be at the level of a pro, but every once in a while it all comes together and it’s perfect, and I get a brief glimpse of what its like to perform at that level. For some reason this analogy really seems to get heads nodding with non-musicians.

Just thought I'd pass it along - feel free to use it if it helps with concerned family members who want to hold an intervention...

My family's just glad I'm doing something that doesn't result with them having to come down and bail me out.

Re: Ryder Cup, Ireland

Can anyone tell me what the title is of the music that the US television networks (NBC, USA) are using with the Ryder Cup
coverage.

Re: Ryder Cup, Ireland

This is good. It helps to explain the tartan trousers too.

Dakota29803 - it's probably a lament now, cause I see your team lost! ;-)

Re: Ryder Cup, Ireland - off-ITM topic

Apparently the reason US golfers are ranked higher than Europaen ones is it's all based on how much money you've won in tournaments. It's only when they have to play together that the actual standard can be compared. You see, money isn't everything.
Does anybody remember when they ran the first of the tv shows where they pitted different sportsmen against each other in a variety of different disciplines ? They put in a top-rank golfer, as the programme was meant to be aired in the US, and he was k*r*a*p at everything, because it's a skill, not an athletic sport - some would say it's just an expensive way of ruining a walk in the country.
Meanwhile, back at the session..........
