Why is it that there are SO many members on here, but only a few contribute to the discussions??? I mean seriously, there's like a few people that i can count on to contribute somthing- even if it's just a random neuron firing that they had- but there are sooooo many members out there.... lurkers, I hear them called, that,(I assume) read every thing but contribute nothing. Maybe they were members years ago and forgot all about this site, or maybe they don't even play Irish music any more.... who knows??
But I'm just saying, I wanna hear from some more members!!! I know you're reading this!!!!! Or maybe they just don't have anything interesting to say,(though that doesn't seem to stop a lot of the folks who contribute regularly to the discussions...)

Look in regularly. Join a few threads when there is something to ask or say. Keep abreast of all the goings on - who is fighting with whom, who is upgrading their instruments, what's new on UTube, and the likes. Working at making the old confuser the centre of the universe (as if it isn't already). Strapped for time, but learning heaps. Not a lot here that goes unread. Not into slagging bodhrans, didges, spoons and percussion stuff or promoting international incidents. Like to live in peace. Good on ya, hottfiddler.
I want to borrow my daughter's remote that turns people down...or pauses them...so others can continue their discussions, songs, what-have-you, uninterrupted! Anyone know where that went?
Maybe they are just sick of people ganging up on them when they offer a bit of constructive criticism - maybe they get sick of the whole lovey lovey huggy huggy thing that goes on here. Not that I'd know about that personally - I’ve just heard the rumours.

hello there, i'm relativly new here but already know the steady stream of names that keep popping up..i have to say that noxious blanket is hilarious!! maybe you could move the bed away from the wall to give yourself better odds at getting out on the right side from time to time.
I contribute to a discussion only when I feel that I have something thoughtful and meaningful to add. But many people here know way more than me about.... anything really related to irish music.

I read Discussions almost every day – it's the checkout lane trash tabloid of online Irish traditional dance music. I don't post that often cause I'm still pretty much a beginner and don't know what I'm talking about. Mind, that doesn't stop me from posting entirely...
I get a kick out of the intensity of the debates so I'm generally a lurker and I've been one for a few years now. I'm on my second call-sign. I can't even remember (at this moment) the first one. I contribute from time to time when something like this topic strikes my fancy. I enjoy the humor and and wickedness of some of the responses. I also enjoy the actual learning about Irish music that happens from time to time. I don't feel like starting up another thread so I'll just attempt to hijack this one for the heluvit. Does anyone have the CD titled "Gogarty's Music"? If you do, do you know the name of the second reel that is played after Maids of Mount Cisco which is track 5. The tune is a burner that is stuck in my head but I don't have a title?
Can anyone help? Also, while on the subject of this CD, I really like the song "Dreams of Home". Is this a well-known song?
I'll probably learn it at some point. I've never heard it except on this CD. I'd be curious to know if anyone's ever heard this sung at a session. All for now - off to a session...really.

Anyways, the "Gogarty's Music" that I have is a really cool and well-produced CD. It may have been released by the bar itself. It was collecting dust and I really hadn't ever listened to the "Maids.." track. It really moves.
There are 3 reels. The last one I recognize as "Tommy People's" as performed by Altan on one of their CD's. (Incidentally, I liked your historical perspective on Altan on a recent thread. It would be cool if they would stop in at our session when they're in town.)
So, now that I've piqued your curiousity, let me know if you find the name of this tune, which smokes by the way, at least as delivered by the players on this CD - Peter Browne and Paul McNevin. (I've never heard of either player - but if either of you ever read this - Well Done Gents!!)
What would Pete Seeger think of this version of his song?
Probably he'd be happy to know somebody still references it
from time to time, even without the melody.
Come to think of it, that's kind of cool, that it's possible to just
type some words on a computer, and have a melody
and song play in someone else's mind thousands of miles away.
Perhaps some of us fiddlers have to do a lot of practicing... I know I have... I spent 50 years away from my fiddle... playing a Cornet in a Brass Band for some of it... having great fun relearning it thought, and ... learning a lot from the comments and dicussions on this site....

When did Dow go underground? Is Noxious Blanket a reference to the one on the hippy bus in the novel by (Jack Kerouac's old buddy) which could impregnate any virgin who came within sniffing distance?
