Ha ha, I love it. Some guy comes in with a bodhran and above his head, in bold caps, is the the sign:
ERROR

Or the 'Errora Borealis', to give it its full title, would, I'm sure be a colourful addition to any session!

Now just imagine playing your next session in front of this:

Whoa! I can't work out if that last one (animusic) is beautiful or deeply disturbing!

Northumberland pipes were in our session last Friday evening. The pipes were covered with a faux leopard skin covering - with a tail and ears.
The piper called it his "dead cat" and it sounded like one too at imes, he has a good sense of humour.

Would the Escopettarras use NRA tuning?

Re: Weird instruments you wouldn't want to see in a session - pictures please!!

The highly enthusiastic leader of our session plays many instruments, including a set of pipes he made himself from freezer bags and plumbing supplies, called 'the cat' as it appears to be covered with a pyjama case, tail and all.
'When bagpuss wakes up, al his friends....leave' :-)

Actually, sounds amazingly good at times.

Any German contributors seen an alpenhorn in a session? Backing a tune, I imagine it could work.

Re: Weird instruments you wouldn't want to see in a session - pictures please!!

Has anyone come across a yodeller in a session? If you can can dowdle jigs and reels, why not yodel them? I've always thought a good string bit of yodelling would go nicely with the pipes - embellished with a few Swiss rolls.

I've been at a session with a tea-chest bass player before, but what about a tea-chest fiddle? I imagine it would be something like a musical saw, only more irritating.

Re: Weird instruments you wouldn't want to see in a session - pictures please!!

Lets all get an alpenhorn or two at sessions. Add a few yodellers too and even some Tibetan monks chanting away. The least that could do is to take some of the heat off us bodhran players for a while.
