Flute help

Hello All, I have been working on the tune Stenson's Reel. I know that there are at least two versions of this tune floating around, and the one I play has DaFaAaFa for the first and third bars. My question is how do other flute players ornament that particular series of notes without using tongue (on the whistle) or breathing only (on the flute)? I have been using the breathing method, but I am not satisfied with the sound. I would like something a little more fluid and less harsh. I have tried to roll it, but it does not sound right. I think it has too much repeat of the a's. This maybe a result of the way I have been rolling the notes, but I don't know. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Lowhistle

Re: Flute help

is there any way you could post a clip of you playing this first phrase? rather than writing a long essay describing something you are already doing, it would be much simpler to listen and then help.

there's no need to hear you full speed if you dont feel comfortable. a nice, slow pace would be ideal. something like quarter note (meaning 4 notes of a reel in cut time) being around a second or longer would help someone hear what you are doing with your embouchure and your breath.

Re: Flute help

I have never posted any of my playing on the web. I don't kow if I have the equipment to do so. I will see if I can figure something out, and if so I will post it. Thanks.

Re: Flute help

Bend the tune a bit. Do D, A roll,A, F roll perhaps, and leave the awkward jumps to the fiddler.
