I'm looking for someone in the Seattle/Tacoma area that teaches Bodhran.
I had a teacher lined up, bought a cheaper bodhran to learn on and then the teacher flaked out and didn't show for the lesson and I haven't heard back from him. ARG!
I havn't played a musical instrument since middle school and I am the type that really needs someone infront of me to teach me but trying to find anyone in the Seattle area that teaches bodhran is like... well, like trying to find anyone anywhere else that teaches bodhran.
I am hoping someone can provide some suggestions. If you could either respond on here or email me sindawg@hotmail.com
I have encountered some really great players at Seattle sessions: fiddle, flute, whistle, pipes, accordion, banjo, guitar, mandolin, concertina--but can't recall any virtuoso bodhranistas. (Just callin' it as I sees it. Apologies to anybody out there if you are one, and I missed you.)
Check with Dusty Strings in Fremont, they have all sorts of traditional music lessons and workshops. Maybe even for bodhran, I've never looked.
The bodhran teacher at Dusty Strings flaked on a friend of mine. So, sorry to say, unlike everyone else in this thread, I can't recommend him.
You could talk to the bodhranist who plays with Grafton Street. He may know someone who can help you. And I think you should totally go with bodhran. I've only met a few in Seattle and they are in high demand everywhere but in sessions. ;c)

Look on the bright side, you've been saved. I reckon you could find a fiddle teacher, or even a tin whistle teacher, easily
