Ed Reevey Tunes

Ed Reevey Tunes

Forgive me if I've spelt the surname wrong.

2 things:

1. Can anyone enlighten me as to how to get a copy of the collected works of Ed Reevey?

2. I've heard apocryphally that Cooley's Reel was in fact written by Ed Reevey, but popularised by Joe Cooley. Can anyone confirm or otherwise this?

Re: Ed Reevey Tunes

It looks like you can get a copy through the Reavy web site.

Re: Cooley's

There's a host of answers to who wrote Cooley's Reel.
Go to http://cranfordpub.com/tunes/Irish/Cooleys.htm
and take your pick of composers.
By the way, this is an interesting site for finding background information on some tunes.

Re: Ed Reevey Tunes

Reavy tunes are a hell of a lot of fun, most of them. From the backing end, most of them are a struggle unless you know them cold, but to hear them played well, they're terrific.
The House of Hammill has been stuck in my head for a few weeks now. Brilliant tune. The last part is a tough one on long scale instruments like zouks and banjos, but I suppose it's good for you.

Re: Ed Reevey Tunes

Are there any sites with Reavey tunes in staff notation? All this ABC stuff is incomprehensible to me ...

Re: Ed Reevey Tunes

Henk - I reckon you'll have to buy the book - follow the bluesiesink link a few postings up from here. I was well impressed by the RTE tribute to him on that site. Good friends with Michael Coleman? how cool is that?
