Two Great Albums From Young Talents

Two Great Albums From Young Talents

Hello, friends! I thought I'd pass on some OUTSTANDING "new" albums by some musicians just coming into their own in the ITM scene. I have had the great fortune to play with both of them, and I am fully confident they all will be very successful and will produce many recordings to come.

First - ANDREW MAGILL - "Drive And Lift"

A highly talented fiddler and composer of tunes, Andrew has studied with the greats: Liz Carroll, Tommy Peoples, Seamus Connolly, Martin Hayes, Brendan McGlinchey, James Kelly, Brian Conway, and Brendan Bulger. I got to "have a tune" with this remarkable young man at this summer's Swannanoa Gathering, which Andrew's father Jim founded and runs. Andrew is joined on this album by master performers John Doyle, John Skelton, and Al Petteway. Also joining Andrew is up-and-coming bouzouki player William MacMorran. I recommend you get this CD as soon as possible, if only for Andrew's brilliant tunes (which are already spreading like wildfire throughout the ITM scene), but also for the album's excellent production and arrangement. Truly talent beyond his years!

Second - OISRE - (self-titled demo)

OISRE- The word means either "oyster" or "to bless oneself" in Irish. Probably an allusion to the band leader's previous incarnation in the band "The Happy Irish Oysters", but the tight trio Oisre's demo CD is truly a "blessing"! Zac Leger on uilleann pipes, flutes, whistles, accordion, guitars, 8 and 10 string bouzoukis, mandolin, tenor banjo, bodhran, vocals; Julian Lambertson on fiddle, whistles, 6-string bass; and Charlene Adzima on fiddle, lead vocals, and whistles. I met Julian at the Swannanoa Gathering, and had the great fortune to play with the whole band after-hours back at the hotel after the Dublin Irish Fest. Wow, can they rock out! The highlight of the album, IMHO, is the beautiful arrangement of the traditional Breton air "Kimiad". Solas-esque sounds abound, as do dazzling "contemporary" tunes by Andrew Magill, Zac himself, and others. Remarkable arrangement and tune selection for a first release. Surely there is more from where it came from!

I have had the pleasure of befriending and playing with all these amazing artists, so please patronize them and spread the word!

Shouldn't this be posted in the "Recordings" section ? You could give us the track listings, as well as the comments and links.
What are we supposed to discuss ?
If you got Andrew's permission, maybe you could post some of his tunes for us here ?

Re: Two Great Albums From Young Talents

You know, a bit scared, tentative, shy. Plenty of lift, I like that. But not much drive.
