“Here's a clip of borders fiddle player Lori Watson playing an example of beautiful borders playing. This is from Lori's online Borders fiddle course at ayepod.net. Check it out at http://www.ayepod.net/webca... “
Aye, some good playing there. Not so sure about the scott skinner up the dusty bit, bit I really like the first guy's playing. Lovely variations on that tune, and a lovely understated style.
Come on guys, those guys are not bad. Some of them definately dance better than others of them and I would question the side shimmys from one of the early guys but it is all a bit of fun and they were certainly different -original.
And Michael, you didn't like Jenna's playing?! Oh well, each to their own!
That Barrage stuff is pathetic. The worst of it all is that they can actually play, but it's this kind of attitude to the music that makes me want to vomit. You have to be a clueless american to really like that.
It's my most honest opinion...
Easy McGregor, isn't that a bit of an exaggeration? They are trying to do something different. It is not really to my taste but you are overstating the matter just a tad. Everyone is surely entitled to do what they want. "The tradition" is perfectly secure and broad enough to allow that and there can be clueless people in any society. It is not something particularly preponderant on America.
In the social section of my professional forum, I was asked about Celtic artist names and how one would start a collection of the kind of music I played. So I gave them a list and also the links from this thread.
Sorry. Yes, there is clueless people all over the world indeed. I said americans because they mostly sell and play there.
But the musically enlighted people like me can see very clear that that is RUBBISH!

Don't get me wrong those Comas guys can clearly play but they don't half look like they are having a miserable time - very boring to watch.

For me the tell tale wasn't America. It was more specifically Disneyland... hence the Mickey Mouse dancing.
