Just wondering if anyone out there plays trad in Vancouver or could steer me in the right direction to find irish music in the city. i'm moving there at the start of october and am on a mission to find tunes.
Leslie Wilson, the director of the DeDanaan Dance School who puts on a great music and dance camp every year near Vancouver would be a good person to speak to. Her camp website is : http://www.internetimage.ca/dedanaan/ceili.asp
I think her contact information is on that.
There is a session at the Wolf land Hound, Broadway and and Dunbar, Monday nights. It starts as a slow session, but gathers speed. Folks there can point you to other places.
There is indeed a session at the Wolf and Hounds on a Monday evening. There are also sessions there on Wednesday and Friday; all quite different. You might like to phone for details before you go - 604 738 8909.
Also check the sessions list on this site for Bowen Island; a mere stones throw from Vancouver.
Bowen Island does indeed have some nice music. I've been there on Sunday evening, and there is usually something going on. You can walk on the Bowen Island ferry from Horseshoe Bay, spend the day there, and its cheap too.
Some leads for Vancouver for you.
Call Michael Pratt at 604-222-2299 for session information at the Wolf and Hounds pub as well as other sessions and lessons around town.
The Rogue Folk Club has regular concerts and might be interesting for you. its at 604-732-1305 and they could mail you their monthly newsletter.
