Youtube - Tony MacMahon

I think we might be needing a new tab for suggested viewings on Youtube - here's a really amazing one of Tony MacMahon playing 'ships are sailing' and 'toss the feathers' from way back:

Re: Youtube - Tony MacMahon

Excellent! ........ & isn't that Joe Cooley's old grey Box he's playing?

Did you watch the 'Session' video on that page too? Look out for 'Frank Spencer' on Flute! ........ Ooooooooh Betty!

Re: Youtube - Tony MacMahon

Yes, I seen this clip before. He's has instantly become one of my favourite box players along with Mick Mulcahy, PJ Hernon (who was playing in the clip that Ptarmigan posted) and Joe Burke.

Finbar Dwyer is good too but has a different style (or maybe it's the accordion I'm not sure!).

Re: Youtube - Tony MacMahon

Good man Paddy, thanks for that, but who was the 'Frank Spencer' impersonator, on the Flute?

Re: Youtube - Tony MacMahon

I'm sure I've seen that flute player at Miltown a couple of times. The late PJ Crotty brought him in to a session one afternoon, I would think 4 years ago,and if I remember correctly, he introduced him as Frank !

Ah ha Kenny, so fact really can be stranger than fiction, sometimes!

Paddy, speaking of great Accordion players, have you seen this clip of:
Joe Cooley: Button Accordion
Des Mulkere: Banjo
&
Jack Cooley: bodhran?

Oh, & just in case you were wondering what ever happened to ex members of 'Riverdance' - well, the fact is, they form Ballad Groups:

Re: Youtube - Tony MacMahon

One of the flute players on that episode of Geantrai, according to PJ Hernon (who hosted it), was Frank Jordon. I think that was the older guy with glasses because he looks familier and the name sounds familier. I think he played with Swine Fever along with Paddy Ryan, some banjo player and another flute player I can't think of.

I did see that clip of Joe Cooley. It's on the CWATR DVD. It's a great clip to have as it was probably his only TV appearence.
