This is too much

This is too much

Have you ever suffered kazoos taking part in a session, or is Oslo the only place where this horrible things happen? I hope so...

Re: This is too much

KAZOOS???? hahahahahahahahaha seriously?? good lord, that is bad!!!!!! well, were they talented kazoo players?

Re: This is too much

We had a person who kept saying kazoo at a session once but it turned out to be a case of hay fever.

You've created a monster

I am so going to do that at my session the next time people get too uptight.

Now I just need to buy a kazoo. One of the plastic neon ones would be favorite - perhaps I should start a "newbie - need help picking first instrument" thread?

Re: This is too much

We've had an erhu (chinese fiddle) and a saw competing to sound somewhat like kazoos in one of the sessions we attended.

For all your Kazoo needs, visit:

Please note that Bulk orders of 500 Kazoos can be purchased for as little as £195!

Why not buy them for all your friends!

Re: This is too much

Hey, they sell a "tuneable" metal kazoo made by Clarke Whistle Co.: http://www.kazoos.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=KK&Product_Code=CMK&Category_Code=SK

Must be a trad instrument....

Personally, I'd go for the teak kazoo with replaceable wax paper.

Re: This is too much

nice, real classy.

Re: This is too much

Bands of youngsters play these in so-called "Jazz Bands" in the former mining villages of County Durham, England. If they play in tune, accompanied by percussion, they don't sound bad at all. They come out to march in processions on particular occasions.

Re: This is too much

There's a guy at my school who is obsessed with someone who plays the electric kazoo...and constantly talks about it...I personally have never seen one but think it's an interesting, if disturbing concept...haha kazoos at a session...I think that would be one of the times when it is appropriate to play the speed demon game, to test your kazooist....haha that's great...

Re: This is too much

I know it sounds like a joke but it's true, and the kazoo player that plays at The Dubliner pub in Oslo is not even a talented one. It's really dreadful!

# Posted on August 30th 2006 by True Music

Re: This is too much

1. Buy him a drink
2. While he is concentrating on that, insert a lump of bluetack
3. In the kazoo, of course

Re: This is too much

Traditionalists use comb and paper.

Re: This is too much

Who EVER had the idea of starting the Kazoobie Kazoo webpage? - Are you sure it isn't that guy from Oslo.
We have had African drummers at some sessions - unsure of how it would sound at first but it turned out they were better than bodhran players!!!!
The worst though was a wobbleboard player - thankfully Not wearing a Rolf Harris wig!!!

# Posted on August 30th 2006 by Harping McCartan

Re: This is too much

Also thought - why not, as well as the bluetack, smear superglue around the mouthpiece?!?

Re: This is too much

Overwelming Firepower. Consider it.

Re: This is too much

We've done "She Moves Through the Fair" on kazoo. Sensitive, moving, ethereal, magical.... just some of the words that don't spring to mind.

Re: This is too much

Will a kazoo float in yer pint? Just wondering...

Re: This is too much

One of the funniest musical performances i have ever seen was on a local TV joke talent quest. A group of 'musicians' dressed up much like the Benny Goodman band in the film of the same name. They had the suits, the music 'stands' the seating much like the version of 'In the Mood' in the film. They then did the full benny Goodman arrangement with solos and choreographed 'dance' moves, all playing kazoos of differing sizes. It was very tight and very funny. My respect for the instrument rose.

Re: This is too much

Pondering this addition to our musical family gives me a new appreciation for the much-maligned bodhran!

Re: This is too much

As all Radio 4 listeners know, the chirpy rasp of the kazoo is nothing without the accompaniment of the haunting lilt of the swanee whistle. I suggest you purchase one of the latter and join in.

Re: This is too much

Heh, JerryH, Iwas thinking the same thing! I love that show!

We've never had a kazoo at out session, but we HAVE had a digeridoo and belly-dancer finger cymbals.

The digeridoo was actually pretty cool; the guy basically played a fairly respectable ITM rhythm on it, just like getting a good rhythm from a decent bodhran player (not just a "thumper").

But, the finger-cymbals made me want to claw my ears off! :(

Re: This is too much

I was at a session which had two ukeles and a saw recently. I could have put that saw to good use.

# Posted on August 30th 2006 by JerryH

Re: This is too much

ukelelses...ukelels..ukeleles. Got it!

# Posted on August 30th 2006 by JerryH

Re: This is too much

I was at a session once that had a church organ. It would have been brilliant if only anyone had actually known how to play it...

# Posted on August 30th 2006 by Joe CSS

Re: This is too much

...And had a biniou (Breton bagpipes) player to hand. I once heard an effective recording of biniou with organ backing.

Re: This is too much

Thanks, Ptarmigan - I should never have doubted the powers of teh intarnets. There is a a webpage to cater to every bizarre whim.

Did anyone else notice that on the Kazoobie Kazoo's page there's a "hum-a-zoo", whose selling point is that it's "a little easier to play" than a normal kazoo?

I don't even want to think about the kazoo-tutor books...

wait a minute...nose flute? Wow...no more fiddle for me.

It's the guy tuning his guitar to his kazoo that you want to watch....

Re: This is too much

Watch carefully & see if you can spot the Kazoo player in amongst this Drum Orchestra:

Re: This is too much

Yes, you got it. Well, who else but a f*ckin' idiot would play a Kazoo in a Drum Orchestra & just to prove it, he's dressed in a Stars & Stripes cape, a Stars & Stripes Hat & a Stars & Stripes knickers! I wonder, ..................could it be him? Anyone see a black Scotty Dog in the background?

& you sinply must check out the ‘Kazoo Funk Orchestra’:

Ever wondered how a Kazoo is made?:

But seriously, is there a more annoying instrument than a Kazoo?

Re: This is too much

Does anyone else remember The Temple Kazoo Orchestra? they recorded a worse version of "Whole Lotta Love " than Led Zeppelin.

Re: This is too much

I take a darabouka to sessions, people enjoy playing it and experimenting. Its pretty non threatening to those of us who are non drummers.

Re: This is too much

I have seen a Rolf-Harris stylophone in a session - electronic kazoos!!

Re: This is too much

We used to have someone who played jigs and reels on a melodica. He played it flat on the table and used the mouthpiece on a hose thingy.

# Posted on September 1st 2006 by JerryH

Re: This is too much

dreadful. we had some kind of african drums at a session recently- actually sounded great, much prefer them to bohrans!! nothing beats a shrill whistle player who's out of tune though in my opinion... come to think of it, ANYTHING out of tune kinda sucks, though pipes get a little wiggle room!

Re: This is too much

I have kazooed as part of a band, myself, briefly - on a ska version of Spancil Hill.

Lost the kazoo sonce. Don't miss it.
