Hello to everybody, i'm new to flute playing and I have a lot of questions but for now i'll make just one. Its easier to play in the second octave (making a beatiful sound) in a wooden conical bore flute than in a cilyndrical bore flute ( for example a two piece doug tipple's with wedge what is my actual flute)?
I think the real reason of this question is the sublimation of the natural desire of a better/bigger/more expensive... thing.
I heard very goood reviews about the doug tipple's and I'm happy whith it but being the only "irish" flute I ever played I can't compare. Here in Galicia is not impossible to find people playing the irish flute but not as easy as in Dublin, NY or Boston xD
Thanks.
If I am understanding your question correctly, you want to know why the 2nd octave sounds better on the conical flute than the cylindrical? The answer to that is in the question: making flutes with a conical bore results in a sweeter, albeit softer sounding, 2nd octave.
Or are you asking if it's easier to play the second octave on a wooden conical flute than on your tipple? If so, my answer would be: not really. If you are a beginner, it would be difficult on any flute. It just takes practice. Good luck.
Thank you.
I can deal with the second octave much better now than a week ago (i'm really really new in fluteplaying)
I can almost see the difference in the quality of the sound from a day to the next. The only problem is that my left index finger is starting to hurt , too much pressure i think. I know that is better the piper's grip for this but i can't hold the flute that way , i feel i can't cover the holes properly, maybe whith a tree sections flute would be easier but the two sections tipple flute is the only i have (till now)
I am doing anything wrong?
I am doing anything wrong?

Re: I am doing anything wrong?
I think that this is tension and getting used to playing to the instrument. I had that problem, it goes away.
