I have successfully uploaded some minidisc material to Audacity. The tracks are marked on the disc, but do not come acrooss marked on Audacity. I want to export the tracks as an mp3 file, then burn to a cd to listen to in the car.
How can I add track marks and song titles? I looked in the "help" area, but not knowing the technical terms of what I am looking for put me at a disadvantage.
On the main page of the "how to" manual, look under Reference/Stuff On Screen/Menus then click on "Project". In the Project Menu section, look under "Import Label" and click on "Label Track". In the "Tracks" section, read the instructions under "Label tracks". That should get you going.
The tool is in the "Project" section of the menu bar.
thanks...that worked, although the way I did it seemed cumbersome...the minidisc was full of tracks from various fiddlers and sessions.
I recorded it as all one track with Audacity. labelled the tracks, and then exported each individual segment (tune) as a seperate mp3 file. Then I arranged them in order on indows Media PLayer, and burned a disc...took me all afternoon, but the learning curve is levelling out. Is there an easier way to do all this?
I've started adding a two-digit number at the start of each label, so the files come out in the right order when sorted normally. (I've also been meaning to write a little Perl script to do this automatically from the MP3's internal track number, but haven't gotten around to it yet.)
If it's one long recording, lots of tunes, and you likely want to take out talking between tunes etc. you can also do it the easy "windows" way, of highlighting the track you want to be say track #1 and copying it. Then open up a new project window and press the "paste" command. You can edit there to your liking, add volume, bass, etc. I always do a split second fade in to the track and the same going out if it ends in talking (as in recording a session, and you don't want the tune to seem to end abrubtly).
Then simply save it as an audacity file, then either wav. or mp3. I always save the original as a aup. file intact, and only start messing with the wav. file (I later convert to mp3 if needed) and if I ruin it, can always start from scratch with the original.
I do this with great ease and simplicity, there may be technically better ways but this works very quickly.
I exported multiple tracks from vinyl as MP3 with LAME. If I go to the dat afile in the LAME folder it plays fine but the track labels haven't carried over, its just a long list of numeric files. Can anyone tell me what I've done wrong? Is it possible to export as multiple MP3 with track names? Would I have to export each track separartely? Is there an easy way I can label tracks after they've been exported? (I'm a bit clueless about these things!)

The technical term is "Label Track."
On the main page of the "how to" manual, look under Reference/Stuff On Screen/Menus then click on "Project". In the Project Menu section, look under "Import Label" and click on "Label Track". In the "Tracks" section, read the instructions under "Label tracks". That should get you going.

Don't forget to install the LAME encoder to export mp3s
