Greetings - I will be traveling to Oxford UK (from Montana, USA) in late September and wonder if there are any traditional music shops nearby that might have a used Seamus O'Kane bodhran available (I'm ready to move up from my Kearn's model)? Also, do you know of any local sessions in Oxford? Thanks!
Hmmmmmmm. Sorry Dave, but I think your on a 'wild goose chase' there - I mean, I just can't imagine why anyone would ever want to 'SELL' their O'Kane Bodhran!
There's a traditional music shop called the Music Room opposite the Said Business School and the train station. You should be able to get news of sessions there too. There is a session at the Half Moon on the Plain, just off the High Street, on Sundays and Wednesdays (though I may be out of date with this).
There's a session on Wednesday night at the Exeter Hall in Cowley Road (http://www.thex.co.uk/). The pub is being "refurbished" at the moment so we've all decamped to the Railway Inn at Culham, but should be back in the Ex by late September. It's a small, friendly session with usually about 6-8 people, but we need more.
Ptarmigan – I do suspect trying to find a used O’Kane bodhran is likely to be a wild goose chase. I tried to arrange my trip to get across the Irish Sea and meet up with Mr. O’Kane directly, but that plan fell through.
I’ll try to get into some of the sessions – they sound like great fun! And, thanks to all who replied!
The Half Moon session on Sunday is certainly still going, 9pm till late. I don't know about Wednesday though. 18 St.Clements, Oxford, OX4 1AB. See you there!

I've just discovered that there's pictures! http://www.thex.co.uk/events/2004/12/041215/g041215.htm. Now you can see what you might be getting into.
