Steve Kaufman's 4-hour celtic workout....anyone ever use it?
Steve Kaufman's 4-hour celtic workout....anyone ever use it?
This is a similiar post to "121 Irish Tunes" also by Homespun Tapes. A very pricey collection of tunes played slowly, then up to speed. I'd buy it in a minute if I could hear just one decent review..............anyone out there ever use it?

I just looked this up on the net. Looks like he does mostly Bluegrass and American styles. There is one collection for Celtic music out of the 20 or so choices. I personally wouldn't want to study or learn Irish music from a Bluegrass musician. But maybe I'm missing out on something pretty cool.....hope to hear some other input...I'm always looking for tune-learning tools : )

I bought it about 6 months ago.The tunes through well played have a very distictive bluegrass feel. Also some of the versions can be quite different from the common ones.Paul McNevin has a CD ( I think its part of a tutor) with 85 tune starting very slow and later faster. Its very good. Also Mat Cranitch has a CD/tape with his book in which he plays quite a number of tunes slowly. Both are traditional Irish musicans.Another option is to play along with recordings using software to slow the speed eg.goldslow (see links)
