My girlfriend is trying a bodhran borrowed from a friend. She likes it and would love to buy one.
We've found some on-line stores (Custy, Lark in the Morning) but we don't know where to look for.
Could someone give us some advise or tell about her/his experiences? We're in the Netherlands, it's not that easy to go visit Ireland to try an instrument.
Since I'm new in this forum I don't know if this is a old question, so it may be better to send me an e-mail instead of boring the rest of you all.
Charlie Brynes, Brendan White and Albert Alphonso are some of the best makers of bodhrans (all tunable I believe). If you do a search for these names in the Discussions tab, you should find more info on these makers. If anyone has more recommended bodhran makers, I'd love to see them posted.
Make sure it is tunable!
They are a lot more expensive, but it's worth it! It's horrible to play with an instrument fitted for another air humidity, being forced to wet or dry the skin every fifth minute!
try www. Boorinwoodmusic.com
18" tunable plain in bag Eur 115 post paid
or non tunable with or without Celtic design Eur 85 post paid
Accept Eur draft or bank notes fz022296@freezone.co.uk/oneillmusic
Seamus O'Kane [who lives in Lower Drum outside Dungiven !!!) http://www.tradcentre.com/seamus/
is also a highly renowned maker. His web ste is well worth a visit. One of my friends, Paul Phillips who has been runner up in the All Ireland twice swears by them.
I appreciate Bart has closed the thread, however, in case any further members are looking for reviews on Bodhráns and Bodhrán Makers in the future here's a useful link.
The Bodhrán Forum features makers and rates their drums regularly. YOu find the reviews at:

Eamon Maguire in Belfast is also an excellent maker with many of the best in Ireland using his drums.

Re: Searching for a bodhran
Thank you all!
Your posts (and mail) helped a lot.
As far as we're concerned we can close this topic, unless somebody would like to make a statement.
But I think we know what we want to, thanks again,
Bart
