Hi there lads n lassies...just signed up& wished to say hello.
Hello.
I'm a fiddler, originally from Blighty..spent a few years in Ireland..now stuck up in the woods of NH.
Any one around from this area???
I play a session every Sunday at the Shaskeen, Manchester NH with Pete Malloy.
Well good luck.
I'll chime in when I have something sensible to say
cheers
Roger Burridge
Hi Roger -- well, I'm a little to the south of you, i.e., Greater Boston. But I think our paths have crossed occasionally at the odd session or festival. And I encountered Peter every so often at the now-sadly-defunct O'Leary's session, and more recently at a house session at Barbara McOwens, so tell him I said "Hi."
Welcome Roger. No doubt you will be pleasantly surprised by all these cheery words of welcome you have received. Yes, they are genuine, but you must learn all the customs here at this session to fully appreciate what's going on & the first one is - last man in buys the next round!
Yes bouzoukiboy.that would be me.....I read a thread about that CD here awhile ago...& nothing too scathing was said aboot it...but now that I've said that I'll duck
I was only joking about the Waiting for Sensible bit in my first post...jees I'd be here all day.
Yes I know Eoin,I was a house musician at McGanns in Doolin when he first moved down from Dublin...taught Kevin his first tune also.....he came out great, eh??
Good luck
Roger
Kevins' playing, and timing(triplets) are impeccible. You make a fantastic teacher and are great team, playing off of each other on that album,
I was fortunate enough to have the boys (Ceili bandits) over for an Irish festival in these parts about 5 years ago, played some tunes with them, and have visited Eoin and Quentin at Brandons and Mae Kearneys ,in Ennis sessions a few times since, while on holiday in Ireland.
All the best ....and let us know if you have any other recordings available.
Dale
Rob,
The O'Leary's I referred to is a pub/restaurant near Kenmore Square in Boston, and which for quite a few years had a lovely Sunday night session -- seldom if ever too crowded despite its relatively small footprint, good tempos, pretty accommodating for most all levels of playing. Unfortunately, from what I understand, management decided a couple of years ago they'd rather the space be taken up by paying customers.
*Sigh*
He _is_ the same Roger Burridge that played in that Fairport lineup. They played at Aylesbury Civic Centre and I was there! Mind you he's grown a few whiskers since then. Hello Roger. When are you going to come and see us up here? Who knows, they might let you across the border this time...

Did you used to play banjo some years back, or have I confused you with someone else? Either way, welcome. The bar's over there.

Re: 'ello..I just joined up
Ditto that ~ but a note of relevance ~ it don't have tuh be 'sensible'...just reasonably civil ~

Re: 'ello..I just joined up
Civil, yes, but you can call ceolachan what you like, though. He's very sensitive and cries a lot, so you must wind him up whenever possible.

Ey-up Rog!
Why do you have to wait until you've something sensible to say?
No-one else does.
(esp. me)

Re: 'ello..I just joined up
You would'nt happen to be the R. Burridge of "Across the Pond" fame. If so you pack a mean bouzouki
One of the finest , trad CD's in along time
also that would mean....you've probably been mixed up with that evil crowd.....Quentin Cooper, Kevin Griffin and maybe even Eoin. (First rate lads..)

Are you the same Roger Burridge who played with Fairport Convention when Dan Ar Bras was in the line-up?
