Chambersburg, PA Area (South central): A really nice Irish type pub opened about a year ago, in a small, historic, and fairly sophisticated town, not too far from Chambersburg, PA. Guinness and Harp on tap - with bar maids who actually know how to pull a pint of Guinness - and a great selection of micros. I've become pretty much of a regular, and have recently gotten to know the owner. Recently I was chatting with him, over a pint, and mentioned that he definitely needed some real Irish Traditional Music, and he told me that he really wants to get that started, but that he didn't know how to go about finding "the real thing". Thinking that if there are any ITM players in the area, who might be looking for a home, I figured The Session would be a good place to get the word out.
This is a really nice place: great beer; great food (in a separate, closed off, dining room); and very promising clientele. I think it is really "fertile ground" to get something going with regular ITM Sessions. I don't know what kind of deal could be made - a regular group, or a standing Session night. That would have to be worked out directly with Flannery, but if anyone in the area would be interested in putting something together, please email me, and I'll see that John gets your contact information.
I'm not in any way financially involved, and don't want any kind of remuneration - except maybe let me sit in on a tune, every now and again, when, and if you think I can carry the load. I just like the place, and would love to see ITM catch on in the area. - G
dylandew - there are sessions in Gettysburg, Harrisburg, Elizabethtown and Lancaster, some of which are listed here in the "Sessions" listing. Gettysburg is closest to you and it is held on the first Thursday of each month (tonight)
There is a Yahoo group called Penncelts, dedicated to the music in Central Pa. If you join up, then you could send out a notice to try to start a new session and see what happens.
