I've noticed a couple of klezmer tunes on this site, and I was wondering if there were any site comparable to this one with just klezmer tunes.
Does anyone know one? or even just a place where I can get klezmer abc files?
I haven't come across one yet, but I would also be interested. I do know of two collections at least:
"The Compleat Klezmer" compiled by Henry Sapoznik (who would know...) ~ with CD
ISBN: 0-933676-10-7
Tara Publications, 1987
"Mel Bay's Klezmer Collection" ~ an edition for C or Bb instruments
compiled by Stacy Philips
ISBN: 0-7866-0841-2
Mel Bay, 1996
But, as with all things, exercise your ears. There are some great recordings out there, and one of our favourite groups are the Klezmatics, and I recommend highly their recording "Shvaygn=Toyt"... There are some nice compilations as well, to search for your own favourites:
"Reve et Passion: The Soul of Klezmer" ~ 2 CDs
"Klezmer" ~ one of the Rough Guide CDs...
There are also some scatterings of Klezmer in notation and recordings amongst various 'Eastern European' collections...
hehe ok shameless plug here -- for more klezmer listening since your brought it up--
My teacher is Adrianne Greenbaum, she has two klezmer bands, the only one I can recall off the top of my head is Fleytmuzik, they put out the album by the same name I believe, it's really good stuff.
Yay klezmer, and she's been so supportive of my forray into Irish music.
& with Alex Eppler ~ great! I wish I could catch that concert... So does Ptarm if he knew and could...and it's tonight... http://www.woodflutefest.com/@Adrianne flyer.pdf
It seems you are 'plugged in' to the best source you could possibly find, a talented teacher. The CD sounds interesting, and tonights concert too... I have known Alex in my far past...
WOW! ~ thanks Kriana, flute, cimbalom and violin and Klezmer... And Tanz / Dance!!! I have to get this and I am now going to email a few other interested parties to spread the plug...Ptarm first...
I thought this site was for ITM.
And then I found some Scottish tunes.
And now, Klezmer...?
Only jokin', good music is good music, fun music is fun music too - let's hear it for The Holy Modal Rounders !

Thanks everyone! Those two sites were helpful in finding ... this one!

I think this might be the abc site to own all abc sites, if you're not too afraid to wade into it (I'm still exploring)

Re: Klezmer
here's a trick to create a klezmer: take a fling or a polka and play it in it's opposite minor. eg. Dmaj fling - play in D MINOR. trust me it works.
p.s play is slowly as well gradually gettin faster.
