I think the idea behind keeping a cancelled session on the database is that it's better to have information about a "dead" session and its place in the local community than no information whatsoever.
"Dead" sessions can sometimes resuscitate, and if you visit a dead session's pub someone there may be able to tell you about a live session nearby or put you in touch with a local musician.
I've always had a problem with this policy, in the sense that it's like having a bus timetable from 1986 . It's of very limited use. When someone searches for a session, finds one on the database, and travels to that location to find some idiot DJ playing "music to bonk by", it's frustrating to say the least. There are several sessions in my home town which change location from time to time, none of which are listed here because of this policy. I know that any session list is likely to go out of date regularly, but keeping the old cadavers in the freezer is not the best solution!
or 'dead sessions that MIGHT just come back'. so it secures the knowledge that there deffinatly won't be a session there until it comes back on the 'sessions' list.
If we could delete dead sessions, it wouldn't be too hard to just add it back if it returns from the grave....
Or, maybe we could have a way to indicate that a particular session is "currently dead", like a checkbox or something, that we could exclude dead sessions from searches.
One of our dead sessions is at a place that no longer exists. I tried to remove it as well. Unfortunately, I imagine there are a number of dead sessions at places that no longer exist. Those places will be very disappointing to anyone that wanders to one, although we have listed that the particular pub has closed and no longer exists.
But, I agree, the dead will start to outnumber the live sessions over time, or just be a lot of trouble to wade through to get to the live ones.
Jeremy, I think we should have a delete button on the session posts. Where I live dozens of sessions have gone by the wayside. If you look up my area, you have to research in the comments area long and hard to realize that you aint gettin any tunes here ( except for the Star and the Plough, god bless 'em ). If a new pub starts having a session, I guarantee someone will list it.
Delete a listed session?
Delete a listed session?
Hi, a session that I submitted has been cancelled ... is there any way to remove it from the list?
I've already put in a comment indicating the cancellation, but it would probably be best to just remove it, entirely.
Thanks,
Len

Re: Delete a listed session?
I understand the policy, but as time passes the dead will start to outnumber the living.
Perhaps there could be some kind of archive?

Re: Delete a listed session?
Archiving would be the best option, possibly on a seperate title like *past sessions* or something along those lines.

Isn't a dead session a seance?

Re: Delete a listed session?
It is true that sessions do make comebacks. I will have to update my own submission, since I checked it out and found it really hadn't died at all.
