I know of a set of Uilleann Pipes for sale. They are apparently a practice set, with two drones. I believe the bloke lives near Maghera, Northern Ireland & is looking for £550 for them.
If you are interested I could find out his phone number & get back to you with a private E-mail.
I sent an email about a potential set but anyways, DEFINITELY research pipes before you buy my set or anybody else's - it's not a great instrument to learn on one's own, and a teacher is pretty much a necessity. This is true of both UP's and GHB's. And, think long and hard about which type you want to get. Scottish pipes are wonderful outdoor instruments, very, very loud, and perfect/required for some types of music. Uillean pipes work much better with other instruments like fiddles and flutes. Also, the cultures and "scene" associated with these instruments is very different. GHB players usually congregate in marching bands, and UP'ers do it. . . by themselves! (Or with folks in a session) You probably already know this stuff but it might be worth repeating
Just before you blow into secondhand GHB's, just spare a thought for the mould spores, festering aged spit and other diseased gunge that's been lying there waiting for an accidental blow-back when the little leather flap fails!
I remember years ago being offered a try on a set that had obviously been played at some time by a very heavy smoker. Eeeeeeeuuuuch!
For that reason alone I'd go Uilleann, plus the tunes are better (wider range of notes).
All the biomass provided by a GHB player pales in comparison to the foul hell-spawned glurg known as "seasoning." I think it's a form of rodent diarrhea.
second hand pipes
second hand pipes
does anyone own / or knows anyone who owns a set of scottish or irish pipes they are willing to sell?
It would be cool if the irish set was more then a practice set.
