Not an advert... this book - "The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook" by either Claire or Amber Davies (depending on edition)... outlines simple techniques for stopping pain using trigger points. I've used it on myself , friends, and family for different pains all over the body... no drugs, doctors or (eek) surgery. Yesterday a fine fiddler I was visiting complained of major hand pain... I pushed two spots on his arm, and the pain was gone. This book is worth it... I've bought six for friends and family. Now it's out there for you , if you want or need it.. Sorry, it won't help your brains... slainte
Pain management for musicians may be one thing. I'm now wondering about pain mangement for our listeners in pubs in view of recent posts pointing out that session tunes as often as not sound as if they're being practised rather than played
I know acupressure can have effects which seem little short of miraculous, but unless the mode of use of the body is improved surely damage goes on being done?
That's always been part of my thing. Re-evaluate and change what causes the pain.
Sometimes a daily, preferably early-morning or pre-activity, session of self-acupressure is worth doing. It opens joints and relaxes muscles sufficiently which reduces pain.
Not having the right equipment for whatever you're doing is frequently a big problem. Sometimes the change is as simple as changing your chair. As a court reporter, I have to sit in all kinds of weird chairs. So I got an oblong inflatable pad from a store called Relax the Back that enables me to make nearly anything comfortable.

You might try Acupressure for Women and Acupressure for Everybody, written in the late '80s - early '90s by ...a Session member.

Re: pain management for musicians
I'll second the recommendation. It's helped me personally; I've also purchased copies for other musician friends.

Re: pain management for musicians
It's worrying that there is pain to manage.

Re: pain management for musicians
Massage therapy and regular chiropractic care have worked wonders for me, accupunture too. Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep an eye for the book.
Peace, Mooh.
