Willie Clancy

Willie Clancy

Hi - I am new to the site and unsure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm planning on attending Willie Clancy summer school this year and I don't really know how to find a place to stay. I saw some posts from last year that recommended 'going with the flow' but I'm a little uneasy with that since I'll be travelling alone, with no car, and I won't be able to bring a tent with me. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Rita

I have hired out a mobile home for the whole week on Spanish Point and am looking for someone to share it with. Please email me.

Re: Willie Clancy

I stayed in a mobile home on the Lahiffes Campsite last year. There was no trouble at all there. I think that the trouble that people talk about must have applied to the free camping that goes on down at the beech. I know some people who were camping at the free camping where tents and vans were broken into. So they moved up to camp at Lahiffes campsite where it was always very peaceful: basically a good, managed campsite where safety was no problem.
If you're without a car, Lahiffes is convenient for the fiddle classes which is in walking distance. I found having a bicycle really came into its own for popping in and out of Miltown (it would also be walkable) and going to The Crosses of Anna.
There is also a really pleasant backroute for cycling into Miltown in the daytime and then at night you can almost cycle the whole way back on a pavement of the main road.

Re: Willie Clancy

I second what dontshoutout says. If you want to "fall asleep" to the sounds of deafening djembe playing and have people stagger drunkenly into your tent then stay on the free campsite! The one near Spanish Point is much better, although it can be a washout if the weather turns bad. Mobile home is the way to go. That little back road which goes past Barker's B&B is great. I used to walk from Miltown back to the old convent when it was Baita Bosco hostel. Just after the sun rises all you can hear is birdsong and not another soul around.

Re: Willie Clancy

By the way, I'm flying in from Luton to Shannon on Saturday July 1st. I arrive at 3PM.
I am planning on getting a taxi all the way to Miltown so if anyone is getting in at roughly the same time, do you fancy sharing the cost? If you're skint, contribute what you can or jump in for a lift!

Re: Willie Clancy

Seriously? Aislíng wasn't sure you were going. Thanks very much for the offer; I might take you up on that. You'll get your petrol money and a tune in your honour. Plus all the pints you can drink!!

Well folks, looks like that taxi might not be happening after all!

Re: Willie Clancy

Well I seem to remember one great night at Cleary's thinking she had hollow legs. But I'd better not mention that just in case it makes her change her mind.

Re: Willie Clancy

If it does, you could always wait until midnight, when I get to Shannon, then sit around until 6am, until I will get the car... On the other hand, you would probably get to Milltown on foot by then.

Conán, i will gladly pick you up from the airport on Saturday at 3pm any other weary travellers that may be around at that time but its not a bus!!
I will not tell on tales on your nights out either Conán and its bottles of Miller these days!!
