Box question One:

Question for box players:
When doing fast, two-finger triplets, do you go 2-1-2 or 1-2-1?

Re: Box question One:

Both. Which in particular depends on whether the next note in the tune is further up or further down the fingerboard than the triplet. If its above, it's 1-2-1, if below, 2-1-2.

Sometimes I use the same logic for 2-3-2 and 3-2-3 if I can complete the phrase better that way.

I use 1-2-3 or 3-2-1 where possible - better control.

Re: Box question One:

i start on the finger i would be on at that point in the melody. i then switch in another finger once just to relieve stiffening and keep the sound loose, then back to the original finger, then on to the next part of the phrase. same deal when attempting those super-fast, four same-note batches. X-xxx. i insert a switch once, just for relief, but use the same finger for all the others. X-sxx.

but often i don't switch at all. i just practice keeping it spaghetti-loose with the same finger. that is as viable an option as the switcheroo, plenty of concertina players never switch on a same-note triplet; same with pianists....
