A few months ago I started a thread, purely as a wind up, claiming, essentially, that Scottish Music was superior to Irish music and that Irish music was more popular because it was easier. For people's reference this was the original thread:
This was merely a wind up and I was just messing around (and to be honest Edel, I would have thought the big smiley face at the end of my initial thread was a give away!!!! ). Anyway I am getting sidetracked. I would just like to apologise to anyone who took genuine offence - this was certainly not intended - I was hoping for nothing more than a bit of banter. I love and have always loved Irish music, just as I love Scottish music and hope one day to be able to play both well - ass opposed to the terrible squeeks that eminate from my whistle whenever I try to play it (how do you insert a humble smiley?)
I am chastened and cowed, yet at the same time incredibly flattered that someone as mighty (is that the expression) as yourself, Miss Fox, would take the time to read my mere offerings on this hallowed board. I do hope you, and everyone else, would accept my humble retraction.
Re: A humble retraction (please don't kill me Edel!!)
No its Classical Music which is the finest expression of the human emotions! I mean can you really compare Dervish, Solas, The Bothy Band,The Cheiftains etc,etc with Mozart,Bach Beethovon ,Vivaldi etc etc?
The Kesh Jig/Morrisons/Tripping up the Stairs with Paganini's 24 Caprices? Ha
Re: A humble retraction (please don't kill me Edel!!)
Naw Naw lads, 'Old Time Music' is a subtle blend of all the best elements of ITM & STM plus the funky rhythms from the deep south - a glorious concoction of PURE MAGIC & surely the finest music on the planet!
Let's face it, if Mozart, Bach, Beethovan & Vivaldi were around today, they'd be out in the stick's slappin' their thighs & their G Banjos like good uns!
Re: A humble retraction (please don't kill me Edel!!)
You folks haven't looked closely at what Alistair said--he is saying that he was wrong in stating the superiority of Scottish music, which means that IRISH MUSIC RULES!
I hope at some point you retract this post in a future post, saying this post was just a joke, and that your previous position was serious. That would make for some good times.
Re: A humble retraction (please don't kill me Edel!!)
Oh well - almost a year on and still Edel ignores the thread!! I promise to apologise, she promises to post an acceptance, but nothing. Even in "hopeless supplication" I am spurned. If I did not fear the kicking then I would follow Eliot's suggestion!! Perhaps I should start a thread on how a concertina sounds like an old Amstrad computer!
Re: A humble retraction (please don't kill me Edel!!)
I only APOLOGISED because it was Edel (and she has a wicked temper!) . The apologising was a year ago and is not being repeated now. I am sure I have nothing to apologise to you for and you're no gettin'one anyway!!

Apology accepted. Besides, everyone knows that Bluegrass music kicks the heck out of both Irish and Scottish diddly.

Re: A humble retraction (please don't kill me Edel!!)
I'm still working the meaning of traditional italian folk music.
Maybe the answer is somewhere in the Da Vinci Code and Hans Zimmer has a clue.

Re: A humble retraction (please don't kill me Edel!!)
To answer my own question (above), Irish music is more appealling than Classical to many because it's nicer!
Catcher, heart thumping, more fun, beaufitul in its simplicity, great Crack (said with your best Galway accent) etc....

For all I use the smileys I feel I should hate them! If you hover your cursor over them though it shows you the keystrokes required.
