Summer Celtic Festivals in North America

Summer Celtic Festivals in North America

I am traveling across the US this summer with my family and in addition to playing in as many sessions as I can would like to attend music festivals. Which festivals are the best?

There's the Great American Irish Festival in Utica, NY this summer. July 28-29. Info here: http://www.greatamericanirishfestival.com/

There are some sessions in the Syracuse, NY area. Let me know if/when you'll be in the area and I can let you know what's going on!

Re: Summer Celtic Festivals in North America

Milwaukee Irish Fest bills itself as the world's largest Irish cultural festival. It's Aug. 17-20, mostly 19 and 20..

Re: Summer Celtic Festivals in North America

St Paul, Minnesota has a good festival with a nice location by the river. They haven't booked their "local and regional" acts yet, but that's where you might find more trad.

Re: Summer Celtic Festivals in North America

On June 10 & 11 in Louisville, Kentucky, will be the Louisville Irish Fest. A real good time:

And then on September 15-17, 2006 in Military Park in
Downtown Indianapolis, is the Indiapolis Irish Fest.
It's a nice time if one can steer clear of the very loud "Irish rock" stages... <g>

Have a great trip!

Re: Summer Celtic Festivals in North America

There's the Saline Celtic Festival (Saline, Michigan) in Mid July:

http://www.salineceltic.org/

Mostly concerts and demonstrations (some not particularly Celtic, IMHO - my "old-timey" band played there years ago, for example), but I did get to attend a workshop and hang out with Matt Heaton for the princely sum of $8. I did some volunteer work there last year, and will probably do so again.

I've not attended, but have heard very good things about the Celtic College, held just before the Celtic Roots Festival
(Aug 11-15, Goderich, Ontario, Canada):

Have a fantastic trip!

Re: Summer Celtic Festivals in North America

If you're a Celtic Rock band in California, and you got a gig at the Dublin Ohio festival, be sure to include it in your adverts -- but leave off the Ohio part. This way people will think you played in Ireland. (I actually saw this being used by a local band)
