Dublin Fleadh

Dublin Fleadh

Anybody go? What were the results like? The standard is usually higher there than at the Leinster Fleadh!

Re: Dublin Fleadh

Odd things can happen in sporting competition as well.

Many years ago I entered for a bike time trial, but had to pull out the day before because of the unexpected early arrival of my first-born; so I phoned the organiser to explain why I wouldn't be turning up the next day for the event.

A couple of weeks later I received the results sheet. And was I surprised to see that I had come 4th out of the 100 or so competitors with what would have been my best-ever performance over the distance.

Another phone call to the organiser. According to him, I (or someone wearing my number) had certainly started in my slot. The event was held some 40 miles from my home town, so the organisers didn't know me personally. Members of my club who were there said they saw me start and finish but couldn't find me afterwards, but on hearing about the baby had assumed I had dashed back to Bristol. I hadn't; I'd spent the whole day at the prem baby unit in a local hospital.

Most mysterious, and the matter was never satisfactorily resolved.

Re: Dublin Fleadh

You got me going there for a while having your first-born with a name like Trevor! Thoughts of miracles in Wales or a glitch with Jeremy's system in attaching names to posts until it dawned on me that you were in reality only an observer on your "better half's" big day. There's hope for some of us yet though as I'm sure I'd have more of a chance of getting a place if they didn't hear me play! Seriously, can someone who was there please put up a few of the Dublin results (céilí bands, fiddle, concertina, banjo, etc) as many of us know people who went in for it but haven't seen them since the weekend.

Re: Dublin Fleadh

Re: Dublin Fleadh

Thanks Sarah. By process of elimination would it have been the Glen na Coille band who got to Letterkenny last year along with na comharsana? Looks like the Leinster fleadh will be hotly contested to see who goes through this year!

Re: Dublin Fleadh

Sarah,
Perhaps it was a good thing you didn't get ranked.
Think of it that way!

Ps come along this evening to Cobbles.
Not you though Marty. Sorry.
