I was at a Feis this weekend and heard an accordian player doing a wonderful tune I had never heard before during the figures competion. I asked him about it later and he said it was called Sticky Notes. I should have asked him where he got it, but I naively thought I could just look it up here. Silly me.
Such an innocent question......
"Feis dance" refers to the Competition Step Dances. This tune, like Tam Lin before it ,is probably the first one on the cd and the dance schools run it all the time. We all learn it and then get rather tired of it. Additionally it is a recently composed tune, rather than a some relict from the dim past. I only have a problem with that due to royalties, myself.
I'll direct this follow-up question to those that are familiar with the feis world. Throughout all of the solo competitions, I knew or was at least familiar with most of the tunes played. However, during the figures the tunes that this particular accordian player was doing were mostly new to me. Are the tunes used for the figures of the category know as "set dances"? What sets them apart from other tunes? Many are multi-part tunes, but not all. And there is no category for set dances on this sight. Tunes that I've seen classed as set dances are listed under reels, hornpipes and polkas. What's the deal?
Anyone know of a tune called Sticky Notes
