Laurence Montague

Laurence Montague

Laurence passed away last Friday night after short battle with cancer.

Much respected all over the country as a multi instrumentalist - he played fiddle, piano, guitar, sang, painted and provided much humour and fun in the sessions he played in.

He will be sorely missed by all his friends, especially around Downpatrick where he was a stalwart of the sessions in Speedy Mullan's.

Always the best of craic with a warm welcome for anyone learning the tunes. I am personally hugely indebted to him for the many tunes he gave me over the past few years.

He had the perfect send off with many of his friends playing at the funeral service with an appropriate rendering of 'The Rangy Ribs I bought from Mickey Doo' from Danny McGreevy at the graveside.

Goodbye 'Big Foot', I'll miss you. :-(

Re: Laurence Montague

What a terrible shame Breandan. He was a true gentleman and such a lovely man, I enjoyed his company when ever we met.

Re: Laurence Montague

That's terrible news. I often sat and listened to him play. What a loss.
