Re: Tom Dunne "Tribute to Paddy Cronin" CD release parties - NJ/NY

How in the world did they forget to inform the most omnipotent musician in our area? I can’t believe that an engraved gold invitation wasn’t sent to the maestro.

Avery, had I known no one informed you of the event I would not have attended and given up all that great craic in solidarity. After all that's the least I can do for the guy that thinks I am sub human and, how was that, oh right, and that another instrument might be out of my league. Remind me the next time you see me to give you my personal “direct hot line” telephone number in the event this were to happen again. This way you can give a ring and I’ll know to stay away.

Hi Avery,

You should have received the mailing list newsletter in the early hours of Wednesday morning. It was from "tony@catandfiddlesessions.com". Perhaps it was picked up by a SPAM filter.

I know Ed, I can't believe it either. :)

Tony, I probably got the email, but didn't notice the word SESSION. Other wise I would have known about it. Well, either way I missed it. I will just have to wait until the next session I can make, probably the IAANJ on the 24th. I know I am on that email list.

Re: Tom Dunne "Tribute to Paddy Cronin" CD release parties - NJ/NY

Folks - this thread is about Tom and the music. How about it we focus on that and help him celebrate his accomplishment and this wonderful music.

I was fortunate enough to be at the cd release party and listen to a joyous house concert. Tom was beaming and it came through in his music. The tunes were punctuated by stories about the tunes and Paddy Cronin. Set in a charming old Brownstone in Jersey City, the acoustics were excellent and no amplification was needed. The hosts were gracious enough to open their home and gallery to all who wanted to attend and supplied a wide selection of food and drink. All musicians at the party were invited to take part in session after the concert. I was very glad to have brought my mandolin with me! We had to leave before midnight but I since heard that the session lasted well into the small hours of the morning.

Congratulations Tom!!

Avi, my rule #1 for any concert is bring an isntrument, even if it is just tucking a Whistle in my pocket. It usually turns out to be a good rule.

Too bad I missed it, I hope everbody else had a great time.

Congrats. Tom.

Re: Tom Dunne "Tribute to Paddy Cronin" CD release parties - NJ/NY

You’re right Avi, I should have listened to the little guy on my right shoulder rather than the one on my left.

Tom and John’s performance was absolutely brilliant. It was such a pleasure to sit and listen as indeed Tom and his fiddle were magical. In as much as I love Tom’s accordion playing it was a real treat to hear his fiddling for most of the night. The stories of Paddy Cronin were indeed a great addition to the whole experience. I remarked to DM on the way home that I was fairly certain it had been decades since the music was heard in that neighborhood. The first half of the twentieth century saw a huge Irish community in that, and the surrounding neighborhoods of Jersey City. I’ll bet there were a few bones rattling in Holy Name Cemetery Saturday night.

Peace,
Ed
