I've just read on some commercial website that the Susato Low D has a removable fipple. I own that same whistle...
Now this is news to me, since no one told me anything like that when I bought the whistle - nor the owner of the store really knew what a whistle is anyway...
Anyone recomends removing that fipple? How is it done anyhow... hot water? I just wanted to remove it in order to clean it - though it sounds pretty fine to me now even... Just trying to investigate further on. Though I'm kinda scared I wouldn't be able to put it back on the way it was, and the sound of my whistle will be ruined for ever ;/
Can anyone shed some light upon my fipple'ing ?
thanks,
Philip
Why on earth would you want to remove the fipple. Even for cleaning?
If we're talking plastic whistle, then just swill it about in a bit of warm, slightly soapy water. If you're dead set on serious cleaning, use some of the stuff they clean babies' bottles with.
If you absolutely have to poke about, slip a sliver of thin card down the air passage and jiggle it about a bit.
If you've done something to the whistle that can't be cleaned by the above methods - don't do it again.
Same reason Erle Bartlett (Syn and Black Diamond Whistles) uses a pin to attach the outer layer of delrin. So you can clean the windway really easily. Just try pushing it out.

Are you sure they meant that the *fipple* can be removed? Maybe they meant the mouthpiece (the entire head).

Perhaps the idea is so you can practice without disturbing anyone.
