Tom Dunne's newest CD - A Tribute to Paddy Cronin - Master Irish Fiddler
My dear friend Tom Dunne has just released his newest CD. It is entitled “A Tribute to Paddy Cronin - Master Irish Fiddler”
Tom’s heartfelt connection to his dear friend Paddy Cronin is clearly evident on this tribute CD. Having only had the opportunity, thus far anyway, of hearing Paddy’s playing on a few cassette tapes it is obvious to me that Tom clearly values his time spent playing music with his mentor and dear friend. Tom’s fiddle playing is nothing short of inspired and is absolutely brilliant. He has found the magic of the tune, or should I say the magic found him, and allowed it to take his bow and deliver deeply moving renditions of some of Paddy’s favorites and own compositions. John Dillon, as always, delivers brilliantly sympathetic guitar accompaniment. His backing allows the tunes to follow their path without restriction. The guest appearances of Don Meade, harmonica and Iris Nevins, guitar offers even greater texture to this CD already filled with wonderful complexities. Hearing these wonderful musicians play together reinforces for me why I am such a fan of the traditional music of Ireland and inspires me to achieve greater prowess in my own playing.
I have no financial interests in this CD what-so-ever and only offer my thoughts as I think the CD is brilliant and Tom is a dear friend. The CD can be purchased on Amazon.

I attended a Christmas party at Paddy's house in West Roxbury, MA many years ago. Paddy sat across from me at his kitchen table while he played me a few tunes- his face lit up like a lamp. Here was a man that took real pleasure in the music, and conveyed it well. A genuine master.

Having played in a couple sessions with Tom, this should be a very good album. Does Tom just play Fiddle on this or does he lay some Box down too?
