New Year's resolution.

This is not a blog, but close.

With much regret, I submit to you all, from Terry McGee, down under, to one of my favorites_Michael Gill, of bodhram infamy, this resolution, for the new year..2006 and beyond.

To wit:
Be it hereby known, that I. Whistle Bare;

no longer wish to:

associate, emulate, perpetuate, perpetrate, stimulate, and/or vegetate with musicians,

that

hijack,
arrogate,
decimate,
insouciate, or otherwise apathate with their innate hypo_thate .

Thanks to Jeremy,
I support this site, both financially and morally, because, the essence
of community, and the spirit of true fellowship, exists here,
better than any other venue I have found on the internet.

I can come here and read about people just like me, who have the same problems, and deal with it, usually in a responsible and loving way.

It's rather like being able to talk to an adult, at the end of the day, after spending the whole day surrounded by teenagers.

If it were only that simple, I might stop here to reflect.......

But no.

I would like to speculate that such dialogues as we take for granted with discussions about ITM, could be dialogues that concern the most important issues we face everyday__defending freedom__fighting poverty__discoveries in science and health__ environmental concerns__cultural influences__the list goes toward infinity.

My point for this discussion is to offer kudoes for Jeremy's model, and to ask that we all consider how this model could be implemented for the benefit of our friends and neighbors, around the world, whomever they may be.

Happy New Year to you too, but not much else of the above made sense to me. What has Terry McGee got to do with this?
Are you suggesting we should be talking about all these other issues besides music or are you just thinking of opening a new forum to benefit mankind, or have I got this whole thread ar**ways up?

I think, as I understand it, that Mr W. Bare has tried to say that this is a very civilized and intelligent forum, much nicer than other forums and a lot of the real world outside.

My other New Year's Resolution ( there was a previuos posting on these ) is to try to learn more tunes out of my file before I collect any others. Does anybody else do this ? ; I hear a tune somewhere, I look it up, here and elsewhere, print it out, into the file it goes, but then I may not look at it again and try to play it for months, except when i browse through the file. Meanwhile the file gets ever thicker, many times the size of my tunebook here since I learnt how to print without bothering to put it in the tunebook. Current file size; 76 in 4/4, 6 waltzes, 5 slip-jigs,43 jigs, plus a couple of collections, not otherwise sorted. THEN there's the books on the shelf. Is there no end to this ? Will I still be learning at 89 ?

And excuse my unsophistyicated lack of any ability to detect sarcasm, but did the Bare sya this is a very civilized and intelligent forum despite me?

Dunno, Michael, I just can't get rid of the nagging suspicion that he put his arm round your shoulder in an overly familiar way and said "You're my besht mate in all the world. . ."

McGee and Gill are metaphors for geographic points symbolizing the intended area of Bare's audience for his message. The beyond is also included in that area.

Well, it is beyond me, that is for sure!
But I do agree with the basic tone, that this website is a wonderful resource, and the vehicle for a great community of people to get together.

Dear Whistle Bare,
The central portion of your discussion, beginning with "Thanks to Jeremy" and ending with "stop here to reflect" appears to me to represent accurately the feelings of many regular contributors to this site, myself included.
The other sections are not only mystifying, but a little alarming.
Perhaps you could elucidate.
Without clarification of your concerns, my response to you would be "It is that simple!"

I think my anger has clouded my judgement, so I apologize to all, for the ranting part of the opening missive.

No, Michael, no sarcasm intended, for I look forward to your insights, and value your views. Thanks to Maudite for clarifying my meaning.



I did not mean to suggest that anyone here should be doing anything else at all. Simply that having this dialogue is an enviable way to communicate ideas of any kind, and that it is too bad that that doesn't happen more easily in other discussions involving important issues.

There are many ways to kill someone besides taking the breath from their body, like shooting them with the bullets of superiority. But I should not have used decimate, I suppose.

Another resolution: never to post and go to bed until at least one reply is answered.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. The musicians to which I was referring are not the ones who read these discussions at all, and I should have clearly told everyone that in the opening.

Ah - the benefits of clear thought after a good nights sleep.

Today I think back to some of the live sessions I've been in and I wonder whether perhaps decimation might be a good thing after all.
