If you could buy one CD for yourself for Christmas...
If you could buy one CD for yourself for Christmas...
A thoughtful relation bought me a shiny new copy of O'Neill's 1001... but I've got one, had for years. So I'm exchanging it. Just the right amount for a CD. As a flute player I've already got a pretty extensive collection of solo flute, lunasa, danu, fairly recent stuff. Who'd like to advise me on the best way to advance my ITM education through my CD purchase? What to get ? Such lovely dillemas.
Re: If you could buy one CD for yourself for Christmas...
At first I thought this an easy question, since my wonderful wife got me the new Mulcahy Family's "Notes from the Heart," which is just -wonderful-, and that was to be my recommendation.
But my 'one cd if I were on a desert island' could easily be one of the following:
Sliabh Notes, "Glentann" or "On Blackwater's Banks"
Siobhan Peoples & Murty Ryan's "Time On Our Hands"
Patrick Street, "Live"
Kevin Burke & Ged Foley, "In Tandem"
These are just ones that give me continuing pleasure, not necessarily the most virtuosic nor historically significant...
There's a nice cd at the location below my signature, too, but probably not eligible for "exchange"... <GGG>

An album that I have already bought but I'm still enjoying is Martin McCormacks uilleann pipes cd.
It's just good tunes played well with fine stong accompanyment.
I think you can get it directly from him www.mccormackmusic.com
of course you can always buy mine. I just bought 1000 of them....
Re: If you could buy one CD for yourself for Christmas...
one that has slipped by unmentioned in my quick scan of the thread...some really lovely flute and whistle work on here with some real classics
Mike McHale' s newest
believe it's "the schoolmasters house"... as a bonus (at least imho) Mary Coogan on guitar accomp.
